You can establish, together with your doctor, a screening and prevention plan to help reduce the risk of developing a cancer. It may include:



Early screening and with a higher frequency.

For example, if you have an increased risk for breast cancer, your doctor may recommend mammograms earlier than usual


Preventive measures.

Your doctor may suggest a number of preventive measures such as certain medicines that can reduce the risk of cancer


Proactive care for your family.

Your results can help your loved ones understand their risk for hereditary cancer

Hereditary Cancer Test includes:


• Information about the presence or absence of genetic changes that increase your cancer risk

• Analysis of the family health history to produce the results

• Customized information on cancer risk and screening recommendations

• Information about how your results will affect your family



What does it analyze?

The Hereditary Cancer Test analyzes 30 genes, including BRCA1 and BRCA2. The presence of a mutation in one of these genes may increase the risk for the most common forms of hereditary cancer, including breast, ovarian, colorectal or prostate cancer.

Who should do the test?

Although family history may increase the risk of having a mutation, the test can also provide important information to those who do not have a known family history of cancer.

What should you do?



Ask your doctor for the Hereditary Cancer Test or order it directly with us




Take the saliva sample according to the instructions in the collection kit and call us for the sample to reach us




Receive the results 3-4 weeks after the sample was received in the lab




A certified geneticist will answer your questions and discuss the next steps you should take




Elaborate a health care plan with your doctor


Genetic counseling


Each test includes additional access to a certified geneticist who will answer all relevant questions, such as:

• What do your results mean?

• What is your risk and what are the recommendations for custom screening?

• How should you present the results to your doctor and your family?

After receiving the result


Both you and your doctor can contact us to answer your questions about the test result at consilier.genetic@amsgeneticlab.ro.
